What are the tents made of?Updated 6 months ago
Honeycomb Aluminum
The shell on all Condor Overland models and early Falcon tents is an ultra-strong honeycomb aluminum. We use this same construction for the floors of all of our Condor and Falcon tent models.
Reinforced PC/ABS Shell with LINE-X
The shell on the Sparrow 2's and Condor 2's, feature a PC/ABS blended shell with an interior aluminum box frame for additional structural support. The exteriors are coated in ultra-durable LINE-X durable finish. The inside of the shell is coated with an insulation layer and attractive quilted fabric to insulate, reduce noise, and give the inside a soft “feel”. The lower shell of the Sparrow 2 is composed of the same materials with a special shape to increase rigidity and stability, but with no LINE-X coating.
Wall Material
The wall material is a polyurethane-coated polyester and cotton blend with a waterproof rating of 3000mm (for comparison a typical waterproof rating on a backpacking tent is 1000mm). The fabric is much thicker and tougher than a typical backpacking tent – more like the old canvas tents your parents may have used. The material provides additional warmth and is quieter during a wind storm due to it’s weight.
Doors and Windows
All Roofnests have 2-part doors and windows with a weatherproof panel and a mesh panel that can be opened for additional ventilation. The Condor 2 Air tents have a convertible awning system over each side window. There is a small kickstand awning that can be easily propped open in nicer weather. Or you can zip on an extended coverage awning for additional protection in foul weather.
Ladder
All Roofnests are shipped with a sturdy and lightweight 7.5 telescoping ladder for access. The ladder collapses and comes with its own heavy duty storage bag or is integrated into the tent. The ladder can be attached to the edge of the Roofnest for additional safety if desired.
Built-in Mattress
Every new Roofnest comes with a built-in, custom-shaped mattress. This is not your typical camping mattress, it feels like a real bed. If you’ve had difficulty sleeping while camping those problems are going to be a distant memory after a few nights in a Roofnest.
