How do I install a tent on a truck?Updated 5 months ago
The short answer is, It depends!
Check out this video below to give you some general guidance on racks, tent selection, and installation.
If you want the tent over the bed of your truck there are a few options.
The main question to think about is how high above your truck bed you'd like the tent to be carried. Most rack systems come in different heights. If you'd like the tent to be carried below the height of the cab, then you'd want a low or mid-height rack. Full height racks are best for maximum access to the truck bed and for longer tent designs such as the Falcon or Condor 2 XXL.
If you are looking at mounting one of our longer tent designs such as the Falcon over your bed, we highly suggest going the full-height rack route, so the tent can be pushed forward over the top of the cab and stay more centered over bed of the truck. If you go with a mid-height bed rack, those tents will likely extend far over the tailgate of your truck due to their length. The Condor tents are great for bed-racks since they are much shorter in length when closed.
Remember- the tape measure is your best friend! Please reference the tent dimensions on each product page and compare them to the dimensions of your bed.
If you have a topper, pretty much any tent will do. Just make sure to check with your topper manufacturer to make sure it has a 130+ lbs weight capacity and has crossbar compatibility. Most new fiberglass toppers can accept custom rack installations without issue. If you go with individual crossbars, we recommend having a track system installed as these spread the load out much more evenly than a smaller, fixed mounting point will do.
